BT Cellnet and Genie merged to form the Mobile Communications company O2. For the brand launch we provided lasers, lighting, sound, video and pyrotechnics and it was also the first time the StratoSphere was seen in Europe.
The location chosen by O2 was the London Eye. The concept was to light up the London Eye which would become the "O" part of the logo and a 20-meter by 20-meter water screen was used as the projection medium for the "2" part of the logo.
The 300 VIP guests were treated to a flight on the London Eye where they viewed the show. The StratoSphere was used as a 360° projection tool for video and intelligent lighting and was situated to the left of the London Eye on a barge in the River Thames.
What we finally achieved was to create the worlds largest logo made from a man made structure. The O2 logo was 420 feet high. A world record at the time and could still be.
